Well, just know that it's normal to think that way, as our brain was made to think so. But as I, previously said, you didn't expect this kind of punch-line. This is of big importance as it's the main principle of the way humor works.

You should create the best possible setup, as it's really important. The greatest comedians will usually tell you a setup which will make you think of a number of different possible punch-lines. The more you think your punch-line is the most fitting one, the more will the actually punch-line make you laugh. If you know the joke, you won't find it funny anymore, because you brain won't be making any new connections as you know the punch-line.

This should be handy in case you want to create new pranks. When a man tells something that all the people thinks about in the same way, but you find out a different way to understand it. Now, if you tell this to others, it should be hilarious.
