Let’s just face it, we are all overworked and underpaid. We want to take a vacation but don’t for fear of falling to far behind. We want to go to the doctors but, our health insurance plan only covers one visit a year. Sound familiar? If so, you might just be experiencing job burnout! Take a peak at the following ten signs of burnout. Having only a few means you are getting close, having more than a few means you need a vacation!

Job Burnout Sign #1: Chronic Fatigue

If you are overtired and taking several doses of ibuprofen each day hoping that headache will go way, you are probably experiencing chronic fatigue. This is a symptom many workaholics experience.

Job Burnout Sign #2: Anger, Irritability

Have you ever been so angry with a customer that you wish you could just tell them how you really feel? Or what about telling your boss how you really feel? Well, most people call that anger or irritability. While these are also symptoms many workaholics experience, it could also be a sign you need a new job!

Job Burnout Sign #3: Self-Criticism

We all have those days where no matter what we do, we feel like we just can’t get it right. Good news for those of you who feel that way on a day-to-day basis! Chances are you are delirious from being overtired when you feel like what you did isn’t good enough, even though it is probably great and fussing with it even more may just ruin it! Leave a good thing alone!

Job Burnout Sign #4: Negativity

If you have ever had a moment where you hate the world, or your boss, or your in-laws, you may be experiencing negativity. This is also a symptom many workaholics experience.

Job Burnout Sign #5: Weight Loss or Weight Gain

Have you ever purchased a new pair of workpants and kept them in your closet until your big presentation, except, when you go to put them on for that presentation, you can’t seem to button them? Or have you gone to work with your shirt fitting better than your sweatshirt and dress pants fitting more comfortably than your sweats? Well it may have something to do with that all coffee and donut diet or starvation because of stress diet!

Job Burnout Sign #6: Sleeplessness

This one is always fun! Tossing and turning because you can’t seem to fall asleep then when you do fall asleep all you do is dream about work, which of course, wakes you up anyway because I do believe that is categorized as a nightmare!

Job Burnout Sign #7: Depression

Are you feeling sad, mopey or just plain miserable? Are you replacing water for wine at the dinner table? Started smoking cigarettes? Rather stay in the house than get outside and breathe in the fresh air? Well, you could be depressed.

Job Burnout Sign #8: Feelings of Helplessness

This is a great one! Usually goes hand in hand with depression. Curing one would cure them both, so, go on a vacation or start looking for a new job!

Job Burnout Sign #9: Increased Degree of Risk Taking

This is that lovely feeling of “I just don’t care” because the consequence may actually be the reward. If you don’t care about getting fired because you have been trying to get fired, you may be working too much, and at the wrong job!

Job Burnout Sign #10: You Think You Are Burnt-out

This is the most obvious symptom! If you are sitting in a chair with your hand to your forehead saying, “I am just burnt-out,” you are probably right!
