Bird Watching in Your Own Backyard
If you like watching the fluttering, curious nature and playing of birds, you probably already know that bird watching in your own backyard or right outside your window can be a great joy. It's extraordinary just how many different species you can see. If you haven't ever noticed very many birds in your backyard, there are a couple of things you can try in order to attract them. With different types of bird feeders, a couple of great bird houses and bird baths, it won't be very long before you have some special visitors out back.
A bird bath is a perfect thing to have in your backyard if you would like more birds to visit. They like wading and splashing in the water, and as long as it's clean, that's even better. You can choose from conventional bird baths, or you can go for something different, like a solar powered fountain of some kind. Bird baths with moving water are attractive to wild birds that customarily wouldn't frequent your everyday fountain, including robins, humming birds, warblers and thrushes. Birds particularly like moving water, and it attracts them easily. Bird baths also look amazing in your garden. There are some people that love bird baths for the fact that they make birds come very close. This is a perfect chance to take some great looking pictures, and enjoy the birds' company.
If you were to put a birdhouse in your yard, there is a real chance of birds making their home in it. They will not only visit the birdhouse now and then, but if it feels cozy and snug, they might choose it as the spot to hatch their babies. This would truly be delightful since you might even get to sneak a glimpse at the baby birds occasionally, or when it is time for them to learn to fly. A birdhouse is not only a place the birds will like, but it is a gorgeous yard decoration as well. There are of course different types and sizes of birdhouses, and what you get is going to depend on your unique preferences.
There are lots of different kinds of bird feeders available, and a lot of them are going to fall into three different categories. There are tube feeders, hoppers, and tray feeders. Tube feeders are cylindrical, with a landing place at the hole where the bird seed is accessed. Tube bird feeders are ideal for various seed types, just as long as the opening is wide enough for the feed to fit through. Hopper feeders are more attractive to birds that could be leery of tube and tray feeders. Tray feeders are great for birds that are smaller. If you truly don't care what kind of birds visit your backyard, and you would just like to enjoy and watch whatever kind of visitor shows up, you can purchase a general bird seed food. Most seed can appeal to several different kinds of birds, because it has many types of seed. If you would like to have a certain type of bird to come to your backyard, then you will want to include a food or seed that is a favorite of that particular species.
Adding these three things will easily make your backyard a bit more friendly for birds. There are some other easy things you can add, like crevices and openings so that the birds can hide, and aromatic flowers. If birds feel secure in your yard, they are going to stick around longer. Have a great time backyard bird watching!
